Time: 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Location: Ridder Arena & Baseline Tennis Facility
The public is invited to attend a physics event so hot, they had to put it on ice! Join hundreds of physicists from across the country for the Physics Slam at Ridder Arena.
This event will provide an opportunity for six physicist contestants to give an entertaining, 10-minute presentation of their physics to the general public. They will be judged by an applause meter. This is a free event that is sure to be fun, informative and unique. The quirky venue of Ridder hockey area as a setting for a physics “match” underscores the competitive theme of the slam. Professor Jim Kakalios, author of “The Physics of Superheroes” will be master of ceremony. Besides all the “cool” physics, there will also be random giveaways including an iPad.
The event is sponsored by the the American Physical Society’s Division of Particles and Fields Communication, Education and Outreach committee, focused on improving communication between physicists and non-scientists. About 600 physicists who will be in town for a national physics conference will be part of the audience. The SLAM is one of the outreach activities of the Snowmass physics conference that takes place at the University of Minnesota July 29-Aug. 6.
