Machinal 2018: Rage Against the Machine

2/19/18, 7:30 PM

About this event

“Machinal 2018: Rage Against the Machine”
Directed by Talvin Wilks
Free, Reservation Suggested

Collaborators re-examine Sophie Treadwell’s 1920’s jazz-age play “Machinal”, part expressionistic, part surrealist, to uncover its complicated questions and create their own responses. “Machinal 2018: Rage Against the Machine” hopes to not to simply modernize the setting, but probe at our society through the lens of gender, race, and class. Informed by the spirit of jazz, the ensemble will evolve movement, gesture, and dance into a contemporary mash-up to interrogate how domestic politics, industrialization, and disenfranchisement result in brutal human fallout. The production is directed by theatre arts faculty member Talvin Wilks.
