Hubert H. Humphrey International Fellowship Graduation

4/24/18, 4:30 PM

About this event

Please join us for the graduation ceremony for the 2017-2018 cohort of Humphrey Fellows on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. This will be an opportunity for us to come together with all Fellows, host families, staff, and partners to celebrate the success we achieved together during the 2017-2018 academic year.  Sandy Vargas will be the keynote speaker.  Additionally, Mr. N’nyapule Madai, Humphrey Fellowship Alumnus, will be receiving the Distinguished Leadership Award for Internationals and giving his remarks at graduation.

About Sandy Vargas:
Vargas, who served as president and CEO of the Minneapolis Foundation from 2007 until her retirement in 2016, is now helping the Humphrey School’s engagement initiatives, with a particular focus on communities of color and new immigrants.  Vargas was described as a “community connector” during her decade-long tenure as the head of the Minneapolis Foundation, one of the nation’s oldest and largest community foundations that supports a wide range of community needs.  A highly regarded community leader, Vargas received the “Outstanding Citizen” award in 2012 from the Caux Round Table.  More recently, she received the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal “Women in Business Award” for her leadership in the broader Twin Cities community.

About N’nyapule Madai:
Tanzanian Humphrey Fellow (1983-84) alumni, N’nyapule Madai was inspired by a visit to Kennedy Foundation Headquarters in 1984.  Upon the return to his home country, Mr. Madai started Special Olympics Tanzania.  He was the Executive Secretary of both the National Committee for the Disabled and the National Committee of the World Assembly on Aging.  Today, he continues to volunteer his time and skills with Special Olympics Tanzania and consults with the government and organizations working with disabled persons in East and Southern Africa.
