Center on Women, Gender and Public Policy Presents

Masculinities and Violence Prevention

1/25/18, 5:00 PM

About this event

The year 2017 brought a stream of media attention to both violence and harassment by men against women. What can we do in 2018 to better address gender based violence, both globally and locally? Join us for a panel dialogue on connections between masculinity and violence and actions we can take to address this pernicious problem. We'll provide an overview of the links, globally, between masculinity and violence drawn from Promundo’s International Men and Gender Equality Survey, followed by a discussion on effective approaches employed by Promundo globally, and in Minnesota by the MN Men and Masculine Folks Network and Men as Peacemakers.

  • Brian Heilman leads the data collection and action elements of Promundo’s work on the relationship between masculinities and violence.
  • Pheng Thao, statewide coordinator of the MN Men and Masculine Folks Network, has worked to reduce family violence.
  • Ed Heisler is Executive Director of Men as Peacemakers, a non-profit that focuses on addressing the root causes of violence against women & children.
