200 Years After Austen: "Performing Jane"

9/25/17, 7:00 PM

About this event

Watch your favorite scenes from Austen’s fiction, presented by local professional actors! Short selections from all six of Austen’s major novels, from her first, Northanger Abbey (1803), to her last, Persuasion (1817).

“Jane Austen is my favorite author,” J. K. Rowling has noted. “I’ve read all her books so many times I’ve lost count.” The author of the Harry Potter books is, of course, far from alone in her admiration. On the bicentennial of Austen’s death, the English department presents a series of performances and talks honoring the woman held up by writers from Sir Walter Scott to Henry James as the greatest novelist in the English language. All events are free and open to the public.
