Center for Integrative Leadership Presents

Bagels Beyond Boundaries: Crossing Divides - People of Color & Indigenous Caucus in MN Legislature

4/28/17, 8:30 AM

About this event

Join the Center for Integrative Leadership for a Bagels Beyond Boundaries conversation with Minnesota State Representatives Mary Kunesh-Podein, Jamie Becker-Finn, Peggy Flanagan, members of the newly created People of Color and Indigenous (POCI) caucus, and Dennis Olson, executive director of the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council. The caucus, along with the council, aims to push forward an agenda and shape the legislative process to include important voices and concerns of American Indian and People of Color communities. Education, economic development, environmental and civil rights are some of the primary areas of concern as lack of action in these areas tend to disproportionally affect these communities. The caucus wants to ensure that these and other concerns are paid attention to, and acted on at the legislature. In this conversation, we will primarily focus on the policy concerns of the different American Indian communities in the state, and how their voices have found new strength in the recently elected members of the legislature.

In order to make sure we have enough bagels and coffee for all, please RSVP here: http://z.umn.edu/1c2h

Bagels Beyond Boundaries provides an informal space for students, staff and faculty to engage in discussion over bagels and coffee. Speakers from different sectors will illuminate examples from their own experience or research on ways to bring people together across boundaries to address a particular issue.
