About this event

FRIT Salon:
“The Louisianification of the French Immersion Classroom in the State of Louisiana: How Can It Be Done?”

C. Brian Barnett, Director of Language Instruction in French & Lecturer
March 3, 2017, 2:30-3:30 P.M.
Folwell Hall, Room 113

As the Francophone world continues to be explored by scholars and students at all levels, more and more people are discovering the diversity of Francophone cultures and linguistic varieties of French found within the borders of the United States today. The French immersion schools of Louisiana are one manifestation of the unique francophonie contemporaine des États-Unis. This salon addresses the Louisianification, in other words, the integration of Louisiana French language and culture into the curriculum by French immersion teachers in the State of Louisiana. The broad research questions guiding this investigation are: 1) Should Louisiana French language and culture be integrated into the French immersion curriculum? and 2) In what ways do immersion teachers integrate Louisiana French language and culture into the classroom?
