Center for Sustainable Building Research Presents

Center for Sustainable Building Research Training (Session 3): Accelerate Performance

12/15/17, 12:30 PM

About this event

The CENTER FOR SUSTAINABLE BUILDING RESEARCH is offering an educational training series during Fall 2017. The educational sessions are 1) Understanding the Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) as a part of the B3 process, 2) Design with Plug Loads and 3) Creating high efficiency building with little or no cost using Accelerated Performance.

The third session, ACCELERATE PERFORMANCE - A NEW APPROACH TO CREATING ENERGY EFFICIENT BUILDINGS AT LOW COST, will be taught by:
  • Scott Hackel, Seventhwave
  • Patrick Smith, Research Fellow, CSBR
  • Rich Strong, Senior Research Fellow, CSBR

Course number B32017-F3 is $100/person and is eligible for 4 AIA LU HSW. A full series description and registration can be found HERE.

Session description
POEs contribute great value to building owners and designers by demonstrating the building occupants’ perceptions of how the designed environment affects their satisfaction, work performance, and health—key factors of indoor environmental quality (IEQ). In this session, the POE process, occupant scores, and the design firm’s responsibility related to meeting B3 standards will be discussed. This information will be grounded in a review of the reasoning for the POE requirement and the POE development process itself. Participants will also engage in collaborative exercises to identify factors that contribute to both high and low occupant scores, how to improve occupants’ responses relative to IEQ, and how the survey process works. A summary overview of outcomes of 45 POEs previously conducted on B3 buildings will be discussed.
