U-Spatial Brown Bag Series: Trevor Host, Geographers, Start Your (Google Earth) Engines!

3/30/17, 12:00 PM

About this event

Google Earth Engine is a platform for cloud-based digital image processing and visualization. Petabytes of public satellite imagery are stored and organized for use with the Earth Engine API. Datasets available include the entire Landsat archive, Sentinel, MODIS, NAIP, and more.

This API can be accessed from any internet browser and runs JavaScript and Python scripts. Since processing occurs on Google’s servers, large image processing tasks can be completed very quickly without the need for a high power work station. Earth Engine can be used to filter images, map land cover, and chart changes over time.

This presentation will demonstrate some of the current applications of Google Earth Engine and provide a walk-through of how to display and filter imagery in Google Earth Engine. Access to the code editor is free for research, education, and nonprofit use. Apply for access to the advanced features of Earth Engine at https://earthengine.google.com/signup.
