Get a glimpse of choreographer Gregory Maqoma's work in rehearsal with University dance students! This informal showing is FREE, with limited, first-come-first-serve seating in Studio 100 of the Barker Center for Dance.

Gregory Vuyani Maqoma started his dance training in 1990 at Moving into Dance. From then on, he established himself as an internationally renowned dancer, choreographer, director, and scriptwriter for his works. Among the awards in his name are: FNB Vita Choreographer of the Year in 1999 and 2002 for Rhythm 1.2.3 and Southern Comfort, respectively. In 2002, he received the Standard Bank Young Artist award, and was a finalist for the Daimler Chrysler Choreography Award and the Rolex Mentorship Programme in 2003. Maqoma’s work has been seen in Africa, Europe, USA, and South America. Maqoma was the head choreographer for the World Summit of Arts & Culture, and presented ‘3 Colours’ with Brett Bailey. Maqoma was selected as the head choreographer for the FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Concert, held in his birthplace of Johannesburg, Soweto, in June 2010.
