Time: 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Location: U of M Bookstore Coffman Memorial Union
Chris Stedman, Twin Cities native author and Humanist Chaplain at Harvard University, will discuss his book Faitheist: How an Atheist Found Common Ground with the Religious on Monday, December 3 at 4:00 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Bookstore in Coffman Memorial Union, 300 Washington Ave. S.E. Minneapolis.
In Faitheist Stedman traces his journey from “born again” Christian to openly gay atheist, starting with his early years being raised in an irreligious family in Minnesota, then moving through his middle school conversion to Christianity and his high school years when he struggled to reconcile being gay with being Christian. Stedman recounts how he went from the heartbreak of “letting go of God” to being a belligerent nonbeliever and then searching for values and meaning in his post-religious life. Stedman explains how his life experiences have profoundly shaped his vision for a society in which atheists and the religious build relationships across the faith divide so they can work collaboratively towards shared values.
Stedman will sign copies of his book following the discussion. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, or to order a signed copy visit www.bookstore.umn.edu/genref/authors.html.
