The recent rise of interest in public space is part a growing movement that recognizes the importance of the commons—valuable assets that belong to all of us like streets and parks, water and biodiversity, the Internet and human culture. Jay Walljasper will discuss how ideas about the commons will have profound influence on how we view and practice design throughout the 21st Century.

Walljasper chronicles stories from around the world that point us toward a greener, more equitable and more enjoyable future. He is author of The Great Neighborhood Book (2007) and All That We Share: A Field Guide to the Commons (2010). Jay is editor of OnTheCommons.org, a Senior Fellow at Project for Public Spaces and an Associate of the Citistates Group. His writing has appeared in National Geographic Traveler, Planning, Preservation, Utne Reader, Planetizen and Landscape Architecture online.

BOOK SALES: All That We Share: A Field Guid to the Commons (2010) will be available for purchase at 10% off the cover price during this event:  $18.40 (includes tax), courtesy of the U of M Bookstores.
