Dr. Lindsay Bremner is an award‐winning architect and writer who has published, lectured, and exhibited widely on the transformation of Johannesburg since the end of apartheid. In her design work, Dr. Bremner takes on projects with socially or culturally transformative agendas, including a design for a Bangladeshi cyclone shelter and the rebuilding of the Sans Souci Cinema in Kliptown, Soweto. Her current research, Folded Ocean: Fluid Territories in the Indian Ocean World, investigates the impact of global mobility, transnationalism and environmental change on landscape and settlement around the Indian Ocean.

Dr. Bremner holds a B.Arch from the University of Cape Town and received M.Arch and DSc. Arch degrees from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. She is current Director of Architectural Research at the University of Westminster, and previously Professor of Architecture in the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia.
