Date: 05/01/2014

Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Location: 150 Tate Laboratory of Physics

Cost: Free

Description:

Featuring Jon Chiglo, Minnesota Department of Transportation Engineering Services Division Director and University of Minnesota alumnus

The lecture is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Space is limited so register early! Seating is first-come, first-served the day of the event.

About the lecture and speaker:

The St. Croix Crossing bridge will connect Oak Park Heights, Minn., with Houlton, Wis., and replace the aging Stillwater Lift Bridge. Minnesota Department of Transportation Project Director Jon Chiglo will discuss how the project team balances an aggressive construction schedule with design requirements, two-state collaboration, environmental standards and an extremely engaged stakeholder community that has been anticipating this new bridge for decades.

When it opens to traffic in fall 2016, it will be one of two extradosed type bridges in the United States. The design allows for fewer piers in the water—600 feet between piers—and shorter tower heights—60 feet. This lecture will highlight an up-close look at construction progress as crews enter the second of four construction seasons needed to complete the work.
