The University of Minnesota launches a new era of excellence with the Grand Opening of the new Physics and Nanotechnology Building, 115 Union St. SE, Minneapolis.
The building Open House and Public Tours are Thursday, April 24, 2014 11 a.m.-2 p.m. or 4-7 p.m. Enjoy self-guided tours with faculty, staff and students at various stations throughout the building to answer your questions.
Housing both the University College of Science and Engineering's School of Physics and Astronomy and the Minnesota Nano Center, the 144,000-square-foot building includes 40 new modern and highly flexible laboratories. More than 15,000 square feet is dedicated to nanotechnology research, including a 5,000-square-foot clean room facility and new labs for biological and nanomaterials research not found in any of the University's existing common-use nanotech labs.
Accommodating 200 faculty, post doctorate and graduate students, and visiting researchers, the Physics and Nanotechnology Building will make a significant impact in increasing interdisciplinary research and the University's ability to solve world challenges with breakthroughs that will advance research and educate the next generation of high-tech workers in the state.
