Please join the Immigration History Research Center for a lecture by Russell Adrian, Finnish American Studies Fellow, Department of Music, University of Minnesota entitled, "Musical Works of Paul Karvonen."
Finnish American composer Paul Karvonen covers a broad scope of musical genres in writing for wind band, orchestra, chorus, solo voice, opera, organ, and a variety of chamber instrument ensembles. Many of his works in the archives show the compositional process of gathering text, creating musical sketches, orchestrating music, making copies for publishing, editing first drafts of published work, and finally producing the music as a finished product. In addition, Karvonen’s personal documents and dated manuscripts show the evolution of his music and the development of his career. This presentation of his work will include recent performances editions created for and performed by ensembles at the University of Minnesota and the South Metro Chorale.
Please feel free to bring a bag lunch.
