Featuring guest artist saxophonist and composer Mike Titlebaum (director of jazz studies at Ithaca College). Dean Sorenson, director. Jazz Ensemble I will perform works by Tadd Dameron, Cole Porter, Frederic Chopin, Charlie Parker, and guest composer Mike Titlebaum. Jazz Ensemble II will perform works by Titlebaum, John Flannsburg, and John Linnel.
Saxophonist/composer/arranger Mike Titlebaum is director of jazz studies at Ithaca College, where he directs large jazz ensembles, coaches small combos, teaches jazz saxophone and courses in jazz improvisation, arranging, pedagogy and history. He earned his BM in saxophone performance from the Eastman School of Music in 1991, as well as the coveted performer’s certificate in saxophone. He received his MM in 1992 from Eastman in jazz and contemporary media. He has performed with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra, and dozens of internationally recognized artists and groups such as the Mingus Big Band, Cab Calloway, Jeff Tyzik, Natalie Cole, Billy Taylor, Mel Torme, Manhattan Transfer, Branford Marsalis, Clark Terry, Lee Konitz, and many others. His interest in educating musicians of all ages has brought Titlebaum to schools and universities across the country where he has directed all-county jazz ensembles and done numerous lectures, clinics and performances.
Convenient parking is available at the University's 19th Avenue and 21st Avenue parking ramps; you must pay a fee to park in these ramps. More information, including construction updates, is available on the University Parking and Transportation Services website.
Parking is available at the 21st Avenue and 19th Avenue parking ramps on the West Bank at the University of Minnesota. Cost is $6.00 per car, pay as you enter, cash or check only. There are also four parking spaces on the turn circle drive in front of Ted Mann Hall available to Ted Mann patrons needing accessible parking. These spaces are available one hour before event start time and up to ½ hour after Ted Mann event end time. These spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Ted Mann Concert Hall's convenient circular driveway allows patrons easy pick-up and drop-off access to the building.
Reservation Information: This event is free and open to the public. Tickets and reservations not required. Seats are available on a first-come, first-seated basis.
