Anne Thorsen Truax (1925-2012), a feminist pioneer, was the Director of the Minnesota Women's Center at the University of Minnesota from 1971-1991. She was instrumental in founding the Center for Advanced Feminist Studies, and ended her years at the University of Minnesota as the sexual harassment officer for the Office of Equal Opportunity. In her retirement, Anne was involved with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program before moving to New Mexico.
Anne’s work to change the campus climate for women at the University of Minnesota was recognized in 1997 by the establishment of the Mullen-Spector-Truax Endowment for Women’s Leadership. The Mullen-Spector-Truax Endowment funds an annual award for a faculty or staff member who has made outstanding contributions to develop women leaders. Anne was preceded in death by Janet Spector (1945-2011) and is survived by Patricia Mullen.
