Curated by University of Minnesota Fine Art faculty Clarence Morgan (Twin Cities) and Ryuta Nakajima (Duluth), Painting Zombies: Permanence / Impermanence features 19 artists whose works exemplify and stretch the bounds of 21st Century painting practice. The exhibition’s title, Nakajima says, is a satirical nod to the notion of resurrecting a supposedly dead artistic form. The artists are: Lauren Clay (New York, NY), Andy DuCett (Minneapolis, MN), Steven Hampton (Los Angeles, CA), Aya Kawaguchi (Duluth, MN), Jacob Lunderby (Philadelphia, PA), Andy Messerschmidt (Ely, MN), Jason Teraoka (Honolulu, HI), Kyle Ushi (Hilo, HI), Davin Watne (Kansas City, MO), David Dilworth (Berkeley, CA), Ryan Fryar (York, PA), Les Joynes (New York, NY), Alexis Kuhr (Minneapolis, MN), Miltos Manetas (London, UK), Ann Tarantino (State College, PA), Yutaka Uemura (Okinawa, Japan), Yida Wang (Honolulu, HI).
