Poetry Slam, Slam Poetry and the Life of a Poet in Germany

Xochil Schütz will talk about the German slam poetry scene and her work as a poet (in English). Poems will be read in translation. A Berlin author and award-wining performance poet, Xochil has presented author readings and shows in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia, Czechoslovakia, Poland, and the Ukraine. She has also been a writer-in-residence in Latvia, Poland, and Berlin.  In addition to a handbook on creative writing techniques, she has published several books, a CD (jazz and poetry), and has won numerous grants and prizes, including the Hamburger Literaturhaus prize (2009), Tiroler Kleinkunstpreis (2007), and Art Prize of the magazine emotion (2007).
