This reading celebrates the beginning of Somali novelist and playwright Nuruddin Farah's tenure at the University of Minnesota as CLA Winton Chair for 2010-12. Farah, winner of the Neustadt International Prize for Literature, is the author of 10 novels, a nonfiction book, and various plays; his work has been translated into more than 20 languages. Born in 1945 in Baidoa, Somalia, Farah is one of Africa's foremost writers; having dealt with dictatorship and exile in earlier works, he has constructed his current trilogy (Links, Knots, and a novel to be published this fall) to imagine possible modes of a return to Somalia. He will read from his work. Join us for receptions before (starting at 6 pm) and after the reading: this event is also part of the Books for Africa conference.
Free and open to the public. General admission.
